Letter to USDA seeks help with natural gas distribution line
In an effort to address the high cost of residential and business heating in the Fairbanks area, Sen. Mark Begich wrote a letter to U.S. Department of Agriculture Undersecretary Dallas Tonsager this week to identify financing options for a natural gas or propane distribution line for the Fairbanks area.

The letter was written following several developments aimed at providing Interior residents access to natural gas, including the Fairbanks North Star Borough’s recently completed Natural Gas Distribution Analysis, a vote by the borough assembly to form a natural gas utility under powers transferred to it by the Fairbanks and North Pole city councils, and the agreement between Golden Valley Electric Association and BP to purchase and truck North Slope natural gas to local residents.
