The 31-year-old Bethel man who was shot by Bethel police on August 15th, was arrested after being released from the hospital on Wednesday.

Aaron Moses was arrested on Wednesday on charges of Assault II, Assault III, and Criminal Mischief III after an indictment by a Bethel Grand Jury on Thursday, August 28th.

It was the miiddle of last month that Bethel police were called to a residence there after Moses’s brother called them for assistance after A Moses used a baseball bat to break the window of the man’s vehicle.

A. Moses had grabbed the bat from outside after first arriving at the home looking for a gun. When his brother denied him a weapon, A Moses became agitated and got into a fight with his brother until being pulled off by another man at the residence.

A man in a nearby house began videotaping the incident as police arrived.

When police arrived, they found Moses outside swinging the bat above his head, when they ordered him to place the bat on the ground multiple times, Moses advanced on them, police discharged tazers, Moses halted and retreated  momentarily, then advanced again, this time at a near run. He advanced on one of the officers, who retreated from Moses and the bat, moving backwards before tripping and falling to the ground.

Moses kept running toward the man before standing over him and swinging the bat, hitting the officer in the leg and the foot. It was then that the officer fired on Moses, hitting him with a single shot to the abdomen.

The single shot stopped Moses from advancing, he moved off, then attempted to advance again, but then moved away once again staggering slightly out of view of the video.

The man taking the video changed his vantage point and soon Moses came into view on the other side of the building, he could be seen walking around before falling to the ground. Police moved in quickly and subdued Moses as he tried to get up again.

Bethel police contacted the troopers and informed them of the incident, Bethel-based troopers responded, secured the scene and began their initial investigation. The Alaska Bureau of Investigations would arrive later and take over the investigation.

The officer in the incident was placed on administrative leave as is department policy. He was also treated for the injuries he sustained in the altercation.
