The trooper investigation that was initiated after responding to the crash scene at 5:55 pm on Thursday would determine that 32-year-old John Oliver Deckard of Big Lake was driving eastbound while under the influence on Fairview Loop, when he lost control of his 1994 Chevy Camaro and collided with a roadside utility pole. The collision destroyed the pole and totaled the Camaro.

After the accident, Deckard fled the scene on foot before the arrival of authorities.

Troopers would locate Deckard a short time later in a nearby residential area, the trooper dispatch reported. When contacted, troopers say that Deckard refused to provide a breath sample.

Troopers arrested Deckard and transported him to the station, where he “intentionally lacerated his own hand, smearing blood on many surfaces,” troopers reported. In addition to smearing blood in the station and on equipment, Deckard attempted to fling blood at investigating officers and troopers.

Deckard was transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where he was remanded on charges of DUI, Refusal, Driving While License Suspended, Failure to Give Notice of a Vehicle Collision, Criminal Mischief V x2, and Attempted Harrassment on a Law Enforcement Officer x2.

His bail was set at $1,000 plus a Court-Approved Third Party Custodian.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
