KODIAK, Alaska — A Coast Guard Station Juneau small boat crew rescued two people and their dog from a skiff in Auke Bay Sunday.

Sector Juneau watchstanders received a call via phone from a concerned friend at about 11:20 a.m. reporting their two friends and dog were aground in an 18-foot skiff on Coghlan Island in Auke Bay.

The 25-foot Response Boat—Small crew was directed to launch and arrived on scene at about 12:20 p.m. The rescue crew safely took the two people and dog aboard. They were taken to Auke Bay Harbor with no reported injuries.

“The two mariners had a means of communication and were able to contact a friend to request assistance who then contacted the Coast Guard,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Christopher Carson, a command center controller with Sector Juneau. “The Coast Guard would like to remind all mariners to have multiple means of communication on board their vessels and also file a float plan with the friends and family before getting underway.”
