Although the on-scene investigation is complete, the investigation of the incident is continuing and the remains have been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage for positive identification. The autopsies are expected to be complete sometime on Wednesday.

It was on Friday that troopers were notified of two missing campers from a site on the Denali. When troopers arrived, evidence of an altercation involving gunfire was found at the scene, but there was no sign of the campers. At that point, the Alaska Bureau of Investigation took over the investigation of the reported incident and an extensive search was carried out to find the two missing people.

It wasn’t until Sunday that a dilapidated trailer was discovered. Noises could be heard emanating from the trailer and evidence found outside the trailer was linked with the missing man and woman. Northern SERT was called in as a perimeter was set up. Attempts at communication were made, but proved fruitless.

Eventually, entry was made into the structure. Inside was discovered the  remains of the two unidentified campers.

The names of the two victims will not be released until positive identification can be made and their next of kin have been notified.
