CORDOVA, ALASKA-A pilot and passenger on a flight with Alaskan Wilderness Outfitting Company, a local air carrier in Cordova, reported to the Alaska Wildlife troopers in Cordova on Sunday at about 9:30 am that they had spotted a body from the air.

The pilot landed their aircraft at Kiklukh Lodge, where a search party on ATVs rode out to the site where the body was seen, according to troopers. The Alaska State Trooper helicopter with two wildlife troopers was dispatched to the scene. Wildlife troopers retrieved the body and transported it to the state medical examiner’s office.

The body was identified as that of John S. Dick, one of two people missing after a crash that troopers say took place shortly after take-off from the mouth of the Seal River on the 15th of this month. The Coast Guard and civilian pilots had been searching for the two victims of the crash, until weather rolled in and hampered search efforts. Missing still is Richard Stoltfus, age 68, who was the owner/operator of the downed aircraft.

Search efforts are still underway and the search continues for Stoltfus with volunteers from Alaska Wilderness Outfitting and the Tsiu River Lodge supporting the Alaska Wildlife troopers. The cause of the crash remains unknown at this time.
