The body of a Ketchikan man was recovered on the second day of searching around the area of Bold Island in southeast Alaska on Sunday, it was reported in the trooper dispatch.

After being reported overdue at 9:44 pm on Saturday night, the Coast Guard launched a 45-foot response boat from Station Ketchikan and a helicopter crew from Sitka to search for 30-year-old John Wallace of Ketchikan. Soon after taking up the search, Coast Guard assets discovered Wallace’s overturned skiff near Bold Island. The search along the shoreline in the area continued until 1:30 am Sunday morning, then was suspended until daylight.

On Sunday, the USCG search was taken up anew at 8 am, this time the searchers were joined by the Ketchikan Volunteer Rescue Squad. At approximately 9 am, Wallace’s remains were discovered in the waters north of Bold Island. When found, Wallace was not wearing a life jacket.

Wallace’s next of kin were notified of the discovery of Wallace’s remains.

Alaska State Troopers are in charge of the investigation into the incident, troopers say that no foul play is expected in Wallace’s death.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
