Senator Ellis Works to Encourage Use of American Steel and Iron in Public Construction
Juneau, AK – In an effort to ensure publicly funded construction projects in Alaska utilize American made steel and iron, Senator Johnny Ellis (D-Anchorage) this week introduced Senate Bill 213. The bill requires American made steel and iron be used in the construction of public projects.
“American jobs should be a top priority when it comes to considering the materials we use to construct public buildings, bridges and pipelines,” said Senator Ellis. “Alaska’s public construction dollars should first and foremost support American workers and American industry.”
Senate Bill 213 requires that all steel and iron used in public construction projects be manufactured in the United States of America unless doing so increases the cost of the contract by more than 25-percent.
The bill has been referred to the Senate Labor & Commerce and Senate Finance Committees for consideration.
