Judge Gleason Gives Former Whaling Commissioner 41 Months in Prison

District Judge Sharon Gleason handed down a sentence of 41 months in prison and ordered Maggie Ahmaogak to pay $393,193.90 in restitution for theft, money laundering and misuse of Whaling Commission funds.

President Obama Signs Alaska Disaster Declaration

President Obama yesterday ordered Federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts for the severe storm, flooding ans landslides that occurred from September 15th to September 30th of this year. The President also declared that weather incident a major disaster.

Governor Parnell Announces that Comprehensive Chinook Salmon Research Initiative Added to 2014 Budget

On Tuesday, in Kenai, Governor Parnell announced that the 2014 budget will contain $10 million as a first part of a five-year, $30 million Comprehensive King Salmon Research Initiative. The Research Initiative will seek an understanding of the factors that influence the the abundance of King Salmon statewide.

Thousands of Protesters Take to the Streets over Garment Factory Fires in Bangladesh

Thousands of demonstrators flooded the streets in Bangladesh throwing rocks in protest over the deaths of 110 people in a garment factory there earlier this week. Police fired tear gas and battered protesters with batons to no avail.
