The Colby fire that had grown to over 1,700 acres and threatened Glendora, has ceased growing as firefighter make headway on the blaze.
With Friday goals of increasing containment of the blaze started by an illegal campfire, firefighters now have the raging fire 30% under control even after an overnight flareup. That flareup near Highway 39 failed to jump containment lines.
Three men in their early 20s, that authorities say started the blaze with an illegal campfire on Thursday, have been arrested. It is reported that the men threw paper on their fire and the wind blew the burning paper into the surrounding area. The men, Clifford Henry Jr, 22, Jonathan Jarrell, 23, and Steven Aguirre, 21, are being held with bail set at $20,000 each.
Two fixed wing aircraft and nine helicopters continue to douse the flames as more than 1,000 firefighters continue their effort on the ground to bring the fire, that has taken five homes as well as 17 other structures, under control. Thousands of people were forced to evacuate their homes as the fire raged in the Los Angeles foothills.
Extreme drought and Santa Ana winds helped to build the fire to its large size. Firefighters hope to bring the fire under control before those winds pick up once more.
