ANCHORAGE-Calista Corporation, the Alaska native Regional Corporation, serving the native peoples of Southwest Alaska, has announced that it has sold the last of its six newspapers. Calista Corp previously announced this summer that it was liquidating all six newspapers, and since then, has recently entered into deals to sell the previous four.
Today, they announced the sale of the Tundra Drums and the Seward Phoenix Log. The newspapers were sold to Eric Blanchford. Blanchford is no newby to the newspaper business. He is the previous owner of the Seward Phoenix Log. He assumed ownership of the newspaper in 1984 when the previous owners decided to sell. Blanchford, an associate professor at the University of Alaska Anchorage, was a founder of the Alaska Newspapers, Inc along with Calista Corporation in 1989.
