CAPITOL HILL — Four days before Americans face massive automatic tax increases and deep federal spending cuts, Washington is showing no signs of forging a deficit reduction agreement to avert the so-called “fiscal cliff.â€
President Obama cut short his vacation in Hawaii in order to get back to Washington in an effort to reach a deal that would avert the country's falling off of the "fiscal cliff" on January 1st.
Early Sunday morning, at 12:45 police in Alexandria, Virginia police pulled over a vehicle that they had observed had run a red light. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Senator Michael Crapo, 61-year-old Republican from Idaho.
The Senate has a new President Pro Tempore today after Vice president Joe Biden made a visit to swear in Senator Patrick Leahy, the Democratic Senator from Vermont after the death of Senator Daniel Inouye yesterday. Leahy is now third in line for the presidency after the Vice President and Speaker of the House.
