Five Rescued from Mudflats on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson

CAMP DENALI, Alaska—What started off as a fun evening for a couple who went off-roading on the back roads of Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, on the evening of Saturday, Oct. 19, turned into a rescue mission that ended up with five saves for the 210th and 212th Rescue Squadrons of the Alaska Air National Guard.

2013 Salmon Harvest Sets New Records

(Juneau) – The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) has completed compilation of preliminary values for the 2013 commercial salmon fishery. Powered by a record pink salmon harvest of 219 million fish, this year’s harvest ranks as the second most valuable on record.

It was on October 18th, 1867, that the Russian Double Eagle was lowered for the last time in Sitka, then the capital of Russian America, formalizing the transfer of the territory of Alaska to the United States. Every year, the state celebrates the occasion on October 18th.
