It was 50 years ago today, that the south-central portion of the state of Alaska and beyond, fell victim to the largest recorded earthquake on the continent of North America. That massive earthquake, lasting 240 seconds, took nine lives, the quake caused a series of tsunamis that took the lives of another 130 people.
Fairbanks police contacted and arrested a Fairbanks man, identified as 29-year-old Charles Darby, in a vehicle outside of the Arctic Bar in Fairbanks after receiving a call about a man with a weapon at the bar on the Old Steese Highway on Saturday.
Alaska State Troopers responded to the scene after receiving a report of an intoxicated driver leaving a Fairbanks business on University Avenue at 3:40 am early Saturday morning.
