While attempting to land on Beluga Lake Tuesday night, a Cessna 206 on floats, flown by pilot Evan Griffin on floats crashed upside down into the lake after flipping over.

There were five persons aboard the aircraft when the incident occurred. All were rescued and brought to ashore from the crash, four of the five sustained minor injuries.
But, the fifth person, Cheryl Heinze, former Alaska Lawmaker, was unconsious and very seriously injured. She was pronounced deceased in Homer after CPR attempts ultimately failed.
Heinze was born in Wewoka, Oklahoma on October 30, 1946. She moved to Alaska at the age of five. Heinze, served one term to the Alaska Legislature as a Representative of District 24 in Anchorage during the 23rd State Legislature session..
The NTSB is due in Homer this morning to determine the cause of the crash.
