Jackie Adams, age 50, the man who stabbed Andrew Wilson, late Tuesday night at the Inlet Inn Hotel in downtown Anchorage, now faces Second Degree Murder Charges.
Jackie Adams’s charges were raised as a result of the death of Andrew Wilson. He passed away from the wounds he received from Adams after surgery at the Alaska Native Medical Center Wednesday morning.
According to court documents, the hotel’s security cameras taped most of the incident, but the actual stabbing was not caught on tape. The tape showed Wilson’s coat being thrown from the hotel room, the coat was quickly followed by Wilson himself. The door to the room closed and Wilson retrieved himself from the floor and kicked at the door.
In a few moments, Adams came out of the room and pushed Wilson out of the hotel’s exterior door. But, Wilson returned inside and continued to kick at the room door. The door was opened and Wilson stepped inside and then back out. It was during that brief time in the room that Wilson was stabbed. Wilson never exited the hallway, and was found by medics and police. He was transported from there to ANMC where he underwent surgery in an attempt to save his life.
Witnesses to the scene, when interviewed, said to police that Adams woke Wilson at 10 pm to have him leave. Wilson roused, spit chewing tobacco on the floor and refused to leave. There were still several people in the room having a party at that time. It was then that Adams first ejected Wilson from the room. They continued, saying that when Wilson began kicking at the door, Adams once again exited from the room. One woman at the late night party said when Adams came back in, he had a bump on his head. When Wilson returned, according to the woman, Adams let him in and told him to step inside. She reported that he did not make that statement in a nice way. Shortly thereafter, Wilson suffered what later turned out to be fatal stab wounds to the abdomen.
Adam’s account of the incident was different than what witnesses had reported and the video tape had showed. Adams told police that after he forced WIlson out of the room, he realized that he had not given Wilson his coat and when he went to retrieve it, Wilson attacked him.
Adams said to police, he had grabbed a knife and told Wilson to “get out or get it!” He said when Wilson moved toward him he stabbed Wilson in the abdomen, after which, he cleaned the knife and hid it under the bed.
When read the charges at his arraignment on Wednesday, an apparently surprised Adams said to the court, “They told me it was first-degree assault.” He may not have known that Wilson had died at that time.
His bail was raised to $100,000 and a third party court approved custodian.
