(ANCHORAGE, Alaska)— Between May 18 and May 31, 2015 the Alaska State Troopers and Alaska Wildlife Troopers will participate in the annual national Click It or Ticket (CIOT) enforcement campaign. Troopers will conduct extra patrols dedicated to occupant protection, focusing on drivers not wearing seatbelts and other vehicle occupants not properly secured in a seat belt or car seat, as well as other poor driving behaviors.
Every year in Alaska motorists are killed in vehicle collisions; some of them were not wearing their seatbelts. Every death on our roadways is tragic. Wearing a seatbelt is one easy step everyone can take to increase their chances of survival, should they be involved in a wreck.
Troopers always encourage motorists to be responsible when they are driving; including making sure everyone in the vehicle is buckled up. Children in vehicles should be properly restrained using the appropriate safety equipment, whether it is a seatbelt, a booster seat or a car seat.
Funding for this high visibility enforcement and educational campaign is coordinated through the Alaska Office of Highway Safety.
