Alaska State Troopers are urging the residents of Noorvik to use caution and avoid the area where a Crisis Negotiator Team and SERT members are negotiating with a barricaded gunman in Noorvik.
A report went in to Kotzebue troopers late last night at 11:30 pm alerting them of a man, identified as 40-year-old Jeffery Henry, walking around the community of Noorvik firing a gun as he walked. Some of the rounds fired were towards homes in the area.
Troopers traveled to Noorvik, but by the time they arrived, Henry had already returned to his home. Once home, Henry continued to discharge his weapon inside the home.
CNT and SERT members traveled to the community early this morning to assist and as of 4:20 pm Friday, are currently in negotiations with the man to give himself up. A perimeter has been set up around the residence as of this afternoon and additional SERT members are enroute from Southcentral Alaska to provide additional assistance.
A warrant for Henry’s arrest has been issued for misconduct involving weapons.
Troopers believe that alcohol is a factor in this incident.
UPDATE: At 4 pm Friday, Jeffery Henry exited the house that he was in and confronted troopers, brandishing his weapon and pointing the firearm at them. Alaska State Troopers fired on Henry causing life-threatening injuries.
Henry is being transported to Kotzebue by aircraft for treatment of his injuries.
