JUNEAU, Alaska — The crew of a Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Kodiak medevaced a 47 year-old man from a 260-foot coastal freighter about 80 miles west of Kodiak Tuesday.

Coast Guard District 17 watchstanders were notified by telephone at about 4 p.m. that the man was having difficulty breathing.

The Jayhawk crew reached the freighter Coastal Trader in Dead Man’s Bay at about 7 p.m. and safely hoisted the man from the vessel. He was transferred to Air Station Kodiak where emergency medical services personnel from Providence Alaska Medical Center were standing by to assist.
