VALDEZ, Alaska — Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Valdez personnel continues to monitor the 136-foot Crowley tug Bulwark after it grounded in Nelson Bay Tuesday evening.
MSU Valdez personnel received a call at 5:24 p.m. reporting the Bulwark was soft aground in Nelson Bay with no reported injuries or pollution.
The tug crew was able to free the vessel from the bottom at 7:36 p.m.
A Captain of the Port Order has been issued to the Bulwark crew instructing them to remain at anchor in Nelson Bay until a dive survey can be conducted assessing any potential damage to the vessel.
The tug crew was preparing to anchor a barge at the time of the grounding. There is minor damage reported to the barge.
The tug Guardian crew took the barge in tow and took it to Valdez.
The Coast Guard investigation into the incident is ongoing.
