United States Coast Guard was notified this morning, May 17, that a crew-member aboard the 310-foot Gordon Jensen, a processor taking part in the 2012 Togiak Herring season, collapsed at approximately 3:30 am.
44-year-old Stanley Allison Jr, of Washington state was found by fellow crewmembers aboard the anchored vessel early this morning.
According to the reports, the Coast Guard informed the Gordon Jensen that the earliest a H-60 helicopter could be on the scene from Kodiak was two hours. A flight surgeon stayed in constant contact with the vessel.
Allison, despite resuscitation efforts, died a short time later.
It is reported that the Gordon Jensen has a helicopter aboard the vessel, but the helicopter was restricted from night flying.
The Alaska State Troopers in Dillingham was notified of the incident at 5 am this morning, a trooper was flown to the scene to perform an investigation into Allison’s death.
Allison’s remains were flown to Kanakanak hospsital in Dillingham. An autposy was requested to determine cause of death, the body will be flown to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage.
Allison’s next of kin has been notified.
