Bangladesh was the scene of another disaster involving the garment industry there on Wednesday as an eight-story commercial building collapsed killing close to 90 people.
The multi-story building housed shops, a bank and at least one garment factory. This is the second time in eight years that a building housing a garment factory has collapsed in that same area.

Workers did not want to enter the building today as they noticed cracks that had developed the day before in parts of the building. They were assured by a factory manager that it was safe to enter the building. A little over an hour after beginning work, the building crumbled down around them. Besides the cracks that developed the previous day, there was no warning signs that the building was going to collapse, the event was very sudden.
People remain trapped in the downed building as rescue teams work to uncover them from bebeath the rubble. Authorities there say that the death toll is likely to rise as workers continue with earthmovers and other equipment as well as bare hands.
Tens of thousands of people converged on the building after the collapse watching and searching for family members and aiding in the recovery.
In November of last year, Bangladesh was also the scene of a horrific fire in the garment district. In that incident, 120 people died, most of those women. Demonstrations erupted in the city as a result of the fire and thousands of people participated, protesting over poor working conditions at the region’s 4,000 garment factories.
