Juneau, Alaska – In honor of Alaska’s veterans, the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has coordinated efforts with Fort Wainwright and state and local law enforcement agencies in the Fairbanks North Star Borough (FNSB) to issue registration extensions to military personnel returning from their tour of duty whose vehicle registrations may have expired during deployment.

“This is another opportunity to help our military personnel with their unique circumstances when returning from deployment, and a common-sense way to show our appreciation for their service and dedication to our country,” said Governor Sean Parnell.

The DMV has agreed to allow for the issuance of temporary permits or Redeployment Passes without charge. These Redeployment Passes will be issued by the Fort Wainwright Military Police and will be valid for 15 days following issuance to allow military personnel extra time to take care of immediate matters before visiting the DMV to renew their registration. Law enforcement agencies in the FNSB have agreed to not issue citations to vehicles with expired registrations belonging to military personnel displaying a valid Redeployment Pass in the vehicle’s windshield.
