The fishing vessel "Scandia," who radioed for help before abandoning ship yesterday has now sunk.
|
The vessel began taking on water yesterday outside of Uyak Bay on the west side of Kodiak Island. After sending a “MayDay” and apprising the Coast Guard of their situation, the crew abandoned ship into a 17-foot skiff.
Apparently, when they abandoned ship, a dog was left on-board the vessel. That dog was rescued last night as the “Hazel Lorraine” transferred the canine to their vessel prior to taking the “Scandia” undertow at 743 pm. As the good samaritan vessel was taking the stricken vessel towards shore however, the “scandia” sank into the depths at 1:47 am this morning.
