Troopers investigating the crash found that 55-year-old Houston resident Leeann Rodgers was driving northbound, in her 1986 Toyota Camry, on the highway when she crossed over the center-line and collided with on on-coming vehicle. The on-coming vehicle, a 2005 Volkwagon sedan driven by 75-year-old Wasilla resident Ronald Palmer, was traveling southbound when the crash occurred. Palmer attempted to avoid the collision and collided with the guardrail but was unable to fully move out of Rodgers way.
Palmer sustained minor injuries in the crash. Palmer was wearing his seatbelt and his air-bag deployed.
Rodgers wasn’t as lucky. She is reported to have sustained serious injuries in the crash. She was transported to the Mat-Su Regional Hospital and from there transported to the Anchorage Regional Hospital and is in critical condition. Her family was notified and they have gone to her at the hospital.
Rodgers was also wearing a seat belt. The investigation into the accident is on-going. Troopers believe that distracted driving or a medical condition was the cause of the accident.
