On Saturday, July 19th, while a Talkeetna post trooper was on patrol and heading south on the Parks Highway, he observed a man in a pickup truck who appeared to be trying to wave him down. But, when the trooper tried to respond and make contact, the man took off in his pickup.
The trooper followed the driver to a nearby residence where he once again attempted to make contact. When he did so, the driver of the vehicle told the trooper to leave the property at once or the trooper would be shot.
In response, the trooper ordered the man to take his hands from his pockets, the man would not comply.
Ultimately, the trooper would take the man into custody.
It was found that the man was on someone else’s property. It was also found that the man later identified as 47-year-old Eagle River man Lawrence Young,had been driving under the influence just before he threatened to shoot the officer.
Young was arrested on charges of Assault IV, Disorderly Conduct, DUI, and because he would later refuse to submit a breath sample, refusal of a chemical test.
Young was transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where he was remanded to await arraignment.
