Yesterday evening at about 6:47 pm, the Alaska State Troopers in Emmonak responded to an injured minor who had been struck by an ATV.
According to trooper reports, the minor sustained serious enough injuries to their lower extremities to require treatment at the Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporation in Bethel. The minor was transported there by plane. The driver of the ATV left the scene of the accident without rendering aid to the minor pedestrian.
An Alaska State Trooper investigation into the incident identified the person responsible for the vehicle/pedestrian collision.

The investigation found that 20-year-old Lilly Yupanik, of Emmonak, had been to a party prior to the incident, where approximately three gallons of Homebrew was consumed. Yupanik , after drinking, left the party on foot, but soon got on a red Honda ATV that she then drove down Delta Street.
Soon, according to the trooper report, Yupanik recognised a pedestrian walking along the road that she was upset with and decided to drive the ATV at that person in an attempt to scare him. But, instead, struck another person on the other side of the road.
She drove away from the scene, leaving the injured minor lying in the road.
The Emmonak Police found Yupanik waiting outside of the Emmonak Police Department waiting to turn herself in. While at the station, Yupanik admitted to drinking and operating an ATV while intoxicated. She also admitted to intentionally driving towards a pedestrian. She was arrested and charged with one count of Assault II, oone count of DUI, and one count of Leaving the Sccene of an Accident Involving an Injury.
Yupanik is in the Emmonak Jail awaiting arraignment.
The investigation into the incident is continuing.
