JUNEAU – Eva Easton has won the “Safer Alaska” poster contest. Miss Easton attends Northern Lights ABC School in Anchorage, and is in the eighth grade. Her teacher is Carole McKee. Eva received a commemorative plaque, and a framed copy of her winning design.
The poster contest helps students connect with domestic violence awareness month (October) and sexual assault awareness month (April). The competition asks Alaska’s youth to think consider what makes relationships healthy, and what qualities help Alaskans lead safer and more satisfying lives.
Alaska has particularly high rates of domestic and sexual violence. Making Alaska’s students a part of the conversation is a way to show that we value their opinions, their safety, and their future. All Alaskan school children from kindergarten through high school were eligible to participate, including home, alternative, and traditional schools.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]Congratulations to Miss Easton for her accomplishment.
