Alaska State Troopers responded to the scene after receiving a report of an intoxicated driver leaving a Fairbanks business on University Avenue at 3:40 am early Saturday morning.
After responding to the area, troopers were able to locate the vehicle that was reported in the complaint. But the vehicle then attempted to evade the troopers.
Troopers followed the fleeing vehicle, but soon the vehicle, driven a person, later identified as 42-year-old Fairbanks resident, Edward Smagge, crashed on the Chena Ridge Road. After the crash, the driver fled on foot into the woods.
His evasion was not long-lasted however, and Smagge, was, in a brief time, apprehended and placed under arrest. He was charged with Felony Eluding, Felony DUI, and Violating Conditions of Release from a previous case.
Smagg was transported to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.
