Fairbanks prosecutors are awaiting results of blood tests on Fairbanks man, Paul Augustus Kirsteatter, age 31, who was involved in a suspected drunk driving accident that took the lives of two people and injured another over the weekend.
According to police reports Kirsteatter, driving a green 2003 Ford F-250 pickup while driving northbound on Nordale Road, crossed over the center line and impacted a red 2005 Dodge Neon driven by Clolton J. Fettig, age 22 of Corvallis, Oregon. Fettig was killed as a result of the crash, as was one backseat passenger,22-year-old Jordon W. Boggs, of North Pole, who was sitting behind the driver’s seat.
Two other occupants of the Neon were injured in the crash. 18-year-old Gerald Noy and 20-year-old Hannah Gustafson, two residents of Fairbanks were transported to the hospital. Gustafson suffered a fractured sternum and ribs and a collapsed lung, while Noys suffered various cuts and bruises in the accident.
Noy was able to talk to authorities of the crash and the moments leading up to the impact. He told investigators that as the pickup approached in the on-coming lane, that it had its high beams on. Fettig, flashed his lights to signal the truck. As the truck moved closer, it crossed over into the Neon’s lane.
Kirsteatter was also transported to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries. He sustained a cut to his forehead as being thrown into the windshield. He was not wearing a seatbelt according to the report. He was arrested and transported to the Fairbanks Correctional Center after discharge from the hospital.
Kirsteatter was arraigned by video conference on Saturday on charges of felony assault, driving on a suspended license and driving under the influence. He was appointed a public defender. Prosecutors are awaiting results of blood alcohol tests before leveling more serious charges of murder against Kirsteatter.
