Anchorage, Alaska – United States Attorney Karen L. Loeffler announced that a Fairbanks man was sentenced in federal court in Anchorage to 45 months in prison on his conviction for forgery of securities, possessing five or more false identification documents, aggravated identify theft, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
On November 2, 2011, Jeramy James Freriks, 35, a resident of Fairbanks, was sentenced by United States District Judge Timothy M. Burgess. Freriks pled guilty to the charges on June 30, 2011.
According to information presented to the court by Assistant United States Attorney Bryan Schroder, Freriks was arrested by the Anchorage Police Department on January 15, 2008, in possession of numerous false Alaska ID cards, along with stolen mail, mostly from residents of Fairbanks. Further investigation by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service revealed Freriks had forged a number of documents, including checks, credit card courtesy checks, and an Alaska Permanent Fund check, using the false ID’s to support the forgeries. Freriks, a multiple convicted felon, also pled guilty to possessing a handgun found the night he was arrested.
Ms. Loeffler commended the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Anchorage Police Department for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Freriks.
