Alaska Fish and Wildlife officers in Coldfoot were contacted early Friday morning at 6:55 by the Chandalar Department of Transportation Camp that one of their employees had taken a serious fall and was suffering from significant injuries at the camp.
The Chandalar camp reported that 64-year-old William Evans of Fairbanks had fallen from a piece of equipment and suffered very serious injuries. They also reported that CPR was underway on the injured man.
A helicopter from Alyeska Pump Station 5 was launched with a paramedic onboard. Their intention was to transport the injury victim to the Coldfoot Airstrip where a Guardian flight was staged. An Alaska State Trooper also responded to the scene and assisted in life-saving efforts.
But, unfortunately, the efforts to save the injured man were unsuccessful, and Evans succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by medics at Pump Station 5 at 10:30 am.
The State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage was notified and Evan’s remains were transported for autopsy.
Next of kin has been notified.
