At 7 minutes before midnight on December 8th, Alaska State Troopers responded to a Felony Assault in progress at a residence at Chena-Ester Ditch Road west of Fairbanks.
Troopers would arrive at the scene to find that two Fairbanks residents, 26-year-old Kyle Curtin and 33-year-old Cody Ladig broke into the residence there and then beat and strangled a 30-year-old Fairbanks resident before stealing his Chevrolet Silverado and departing. The two men would crash into the ditch as the troopers arrived in the area.
The two suspects then fled the scene on foot. 33-year-old Ladig was quickly caught, but Curtin got away through the trees and then stole another vehicle from the area, this time he stole a GMC Seirra from a nearby residence.
Curtin did not choose his exit wisely however, and he found himself at a dead-end road. Curtin exited this vehicle as well and fled through the woods. The troopers gave chase.
