At 5:18 pm Sunday evening, multiple REDDI reports came in to the Alaska State Trooper on the Kenai Peninsula.

Troopers responded to the Report Every Dangerous Driver Immediately reports that were identifying a yellow SUV driving erradically on the Sterling Highway.

A wildlife trooper spotted the vehicle at about 6:15 pm traveling north near Happy Valley, he attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle ignored his direction and continued northbound.

Then, the vehicle came to a stop and the female driver opened fire on the officer according to trooper reports.The wildlife trooper returned fire and the vehicle sped away, once again heading northbound.

The vehicle finally came to a dead stop in the middle of the highway at mile 147 of the Sterling.

Troopers from Soldotna and Anchor Point along with the Homer Police Department and the South Central SERT team arrived at the scene to assist. After 30 minutes, the driver of the vehicle finally extended her arms out of the vehicle and officers were able to take her into custody.

It was then that it became apparent that the woman had received a gunshot wound to the torso. She was transported to the hospital in Homer, then moved again to the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage, for treatment of her wounds.

The Alaska Bureau of Investigations arrived and began their investigation at the scene. The highway at mile 147 was closed until approximately 1 am Monday morning as the ABI carried out their on-scene investigation.

The firearm was retrieved from the vehicle along with spent shell casings.

According to reports, at least one round from the woman’s firearm struck the officer’s vehicle.

Because she has not yet been charged, the woman’s name has not been released. She was the only one injured in the incident.

As per policy, the Wildlife trooper was placed on administrative leave. The officers name will be released in three days, which is standard policy.

The investigation is still under investigation.
