KODIAK, Alaska – A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew medevaced a 50-year-old man from the Seattle-based 50-foot fishing vessel Heidi Linea 218 miles southwest of Kodiak Thursday evening.
Coast Guard District Seventeen command center watchstanders received a call at 5:20 p.m. via satellite phone reporting Anthony Imas, residency unknown, was suffering from severe back pain as a result of a fall aboard the vessel. The watchstanders directed the launch of the helicopter crew at 7 p.m.
The rescue crew arrived on scene and safely hoisted Imas in stable condition at 9:45 p.m. They are expected to arrive in Kodiak around midnight and will transfer Imas to awaiting emergency medical services who will take him to Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center for further medical care.
Weather at the time of the rescue was reported as winds of 23 mph with four-foot seas.
