Alaska State troopers in Wasilla went in hot pursuit of an fleeing driver after attempting to stop a vehicle traveling in the wrong lane near Seldon and Winona Drive early this morning.
At 4:28 AM this morning, the driver of a Chevrolet Suburban led troopers on a high-speed chase for a short time on Aoki Drive.
During the pursuit, the suburban hit retention wires on a power pole. This caused the transformer to explode and cut power to the area. The vehicle continued on, driving through two yards on Aoki Drive before coming to a stop in a wooded area nearby. The driver fled on foot.
Although they could not find the fleeing driver, Alaska State troopers retrieved numerous stolen items in the vehicle.

At about the same time of the pursuit, the Alaska State troopers had received a report of a burglary alarm at the Fishhook Food Mart. it was reported that an unidentified person broke out front glass door, entered and stole items from the establishment.
It was the stolen items from store that were found in the suburban after the chase.
Troopers located the owner of the suburban. The trooper investigation would find that the vehicle had been stolen sometime earlier in the night. The vehicle was returned to the owner.
The Matanuska Electrical Association was contacted and they responded to the scene of the damaged transformer and restored power to the area.
State troopers are continuing to investigate the incident.
