At about 2:30 am on Friday, Garrett Huntington, age 22, of Galena, used his cell phone to make a false report.
He called in, saying that he was on the trail between Galena and Huslia and had a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Alaska State Troopers responded to the report using a chartered helicopter, a fixed-wing aircraft and multiple search and rescue teams on snow machines from the villages in the area in an attempt to locate the caller. Huntington was nowhere to be found on the trails.
Huntington was later located at his residence in Galena. He was uninjured. He was arrested for two counts of False Report, four counts of Disorderly Conduct, DUI, and MIW IV. Huntington was transported to the Fairbanks Correctional Center for arraignment.
