Florida man, George Zimmerman, who was involved and acquitted of the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, has been involved in a shooting on Monday.
Lake Mary police responded to the scene to investigate the shooting. They report that another motorist, who had previous involvement with Zimmerman, pulled up alongside Zimmerman’s vehicle and discharged his firearm at him at approximately 12:45 pm.
Zimmerman did not suffer a gunshot wound as a result of the shooting, but instead suffered minor injuries from the passenger window glass that was shattered by the bullet. The bullet narrowly missed Zimmerman’s head and lodged in the roof of Zimmerman’s car.
After the incident, the shooter told a bystander that he had just shot Zimmerman, then got on the phone and called police to explain what he had done.
When an ambulance arrived at the scene after the shooting, Zimmerman walked unaided to the ambulance to be taken to the hospital. Lake Mary Police Chief Colin Morgan stated that Zimmerman will be transported to the police station after being released from the hospital.
Zimmerman has had a few incidences where police have been involved the fatal shooting of Martin in 2013 and his subsequent acquittal. Two of the incidences involved girlfriends and one involved Zimmerman’s wife. Charges in all those cases were either not filed or dropped after recantation by the complainants.
