Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell, on Tuesday signed four resolutions, including House Joint Resolution 23, proclaiming March 27, 2014 as Good Friday Earthquake Remembrance Day.
“Many Alaskans remember that fateful day 50 years ago,” Governor Parnell said. “Alaskans from across the state banded together and demonstrated the true strength of our state and people. With this resolution, we remember and honor all those who helped in the recovery, support and rebuilding efforts.”
HJR 23 is sponsored by Representative Charisse Millett.
Governor Parnell also signed three other resolutions:
- HJR 15, sponsored by Representative Millett, urges the introduction and passage of federal legislation acknowledging financial responsibility by the federal government for the remediation of contaminated land subject to conveyance under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA). The resolution also urges the United States Department of the Interior to fully implement the six recommendations to identify and clean up ANCSA lands in its 1998 report to Congress.
- HJR 19, sponsored by Representative Doug Isaacson, encourages the Secretary of the Air Force, the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, and the Commander of the Pacific Air Forces to base F-35 aircraft at Eielson Air Force Base or Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.
- HJR 26, sponsored by Representative Dan Saddler, urges Congress to establish a consistent and equitable revenue sharing system that includes all oil and gas producing states adjacent to federal outer continental shelf (OCS) areas as a way to further support development in these areas, and preserve environmental integrity.
