Alaska's Governor Parnell wrote a letter urging the commander of the Pacific Air Forces, General Herbert Carlisle, to conduct an open and thorough assessment before taking action with regards to an Environmental Impact Statement review.
The Air Force announced a Force Structure Adjustment in March of this year connected with the proposed move of the 18th Aggressor Squadron from Eielson Air Force Base to the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson Base. The Military Advocacy and Force Structure Team has been monitoring the proposed move since then.

In his letter to the general, Governor Parnell requested that the USAF hold multiple meetings in each community involved to allow the full participation of the public. He also requested that USAF hold meetings in the Mat-Su Valley, where most of the military training flights will take place. The Air Forces minimum requirement is for one meeting in each community.
A request was also made to extend the suggested public comment period to 60 days in order to better assist the public.
