Community members in Grayling took up the search for 43-year-old Stanley Milton after finding his jacket frozen in Grayling Creek on Wednesday.
After calling in Milton’s missing status and discovery of his jacket to troopers, community members chipped their way through the ice using chain saws, ice picks and axes on Wednesday afternoon.
After getting through the ice, drag bars and hooks were utilized to drag the creek.
At 6 pm that evening, Milton’s remains were recovered approximately 100 feet from where his jacket was initially found.
Although foul play is not expected in Milton’s death, his remains were sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage for autopsy.
Milton’s next of kin were notified of his death.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
