During the rare exhibition of political violence in that country, one person was killed and another injured before police could capture the AK-47 wielding gunman. The gunman shouted “The English are waking up!” as he was being arrested. He continued by shouting, “There’s going to be f-ing payback. It’s enough. Wanna make trouble.”
Both the injured man and the man fatally shot are believed to be employees of Solotech, a company hired to work at the metropolis on election night.
It is reported that the gunman also set fire to the back of the building during his attack.Two guns were recovered from the scene, but authorities believe the 62-year-old suspect acted alone.
Pauline Marios was rushed off the stage by her bodyguards when the gunfire erupted. She would return later to complete her victory speech.
