Heavy rain, melting snow and high winds are wreaking havoc on Prince of Wales Island and the communities the island that include Klawock and Craig today.
Trooper dispatch has announced that the island is suffering island-wide flooding and landslides that have taken out power lines. They also report that the Klawock Hollis Highway at Harris River Road is blocked by a landslide with lines down.
It is also reported that the Coffman Cove Road is closed down to another landslide from mile 22 to mile 23.
Flooding has also washed out the Whale Pass Road at mile 32.
The weather problems are not exclusive to Prince of Wales however. The National Weather Service has announced Flood Warnings from Sitka to the Canadian border as heavy rain continues to fall in Southeast Alaska.
Ketchikan suffered power outage due to downed trees this morning. But, the road was cleared by mid-morning and power has returned to that community.
After three days of heavy rainfall and snow melt, Sitka has suffered mudslides, and a new channel formed by heavy weather last month has filled up again on the Herring Cove Trail, and diverted water is threatening to take out a section of the trail.
Alaska State Troopers in Klawock are asking the please stay at home if at all possible and to use extreme caution if venturing out.
