It was on Thursday that Alaska State Troopers received a report of a search and rescue under way for a missing Hooper Bay man who had jumped into the Akuliqutaq River and wasn’t seen again, the trooper dispatch reported.
Troopers received the report at 3:15pm on Thursday, reporting that 33-year-old Marvin Smith had disappeared into the river. According to the report, Smith “had reportedly jumped into the Akuliqutaq River without clothing, went under water, and had not surfaced.”
