Apollo Global Management made an announcement on Thursday, and reported that Hostess will reopen its bakery in eastern Kansas this summer. the reopening of the Emporia plant will bring back the iconic bakery snacks, and they should start appearing on store shelves by July.
Last month, Apollo Global Management, announced its purchase of Hostess Brands, Inc. the maker of Twinkies, Cupcakes, Ding Dongs, and Ho Hos. Hostess will now do business as Hostess Brands LLC
Hostess Brands LLC bought the rights to Hostess and Dolly Madison snack cakes, and five plants for $410 million.

The reopening of the plant will see a initial rehiring of approximately 250 people. That process is already begun. Officials say as they expand the bakery, they expect to employ about 300 people as the expansion progresses.
as well as the Emporia plant, Hostess brands expects to reopen its plans in Columbus, Georgia; Schiller Park, Illinois; an Indianapolis. The company is also mulling over the thought of opening an additional plant in Los Angeles.
Hostess brands expects to hire at least 1500 workers to man these five plants. but according to Hostess officials, workers will not be unionized.
It was a strike by the bakers union that prompted Hostess Brands to close its bakery doors in November of 2012. Hostess announced then that strike that crippled the operations at the plant’s at a time that the company lacked financial resources. The company felt that they could not survive a significant labor action. The company pointed out that the biggest component of its costs was collective-bargaining agreements that covered 15,000 of its then 18,500 employees. At the time of disclosure Hostess brands and 33 bakeries, 565 distribution centers, about 5500 delivery routes, and 570 bakery outlet stores.
