ANCHORAGE, ALASKA-Jessica Beasley, the "Hot Sauce Mom," who was catapulted to international infamy as the adoptive mother who subjected her Russian son to cold showers and hot sauce treatments, was sentenced yesterday.
Her sentence was handed down by District Court Judge David Wallace. Wallace sentenced Beagley to 180 days in jail with all 180 days suspended and a $2,500 fine with all $2,500 suspended and a three year probationary period. She must also continue to attend counseling sessions with her sons.
Prior to sentencing, Jessica Beagley told the Judge, “I have three boys, all with special needs, some of their special needs are easily taken care of. A therapy session here or there. I have one little boy, who is much more special than that. Who came to me with special needs that I didn’t know how to handle. That most moms don’t know how to handle.”
Prosecutors asked for 30 days in jail and a $1,500 fine and a suspended imposition of sentence because of Beagley’s clean record.
Judge Wallace described the abuse that Beagley put her adopted son through as a “premeditated, gratuitous act against a boy that you knew had problems.” He also said of the video of her abusing her child as disturbing. But, he also said that she was not the worse kind of offender and expressed to her, “Outside of this case, you’re a good mom. You’re not a danger to the public. I think you committed a one-time act to get [on] a TV show.”
Beagley, and her husband, an Anchorage Police Officer, had no comments to the press as they left the courthouse.
