Monday, March 11, 2013, Juneau, Alaska – The Alaska House of Representatives today moved one step closer to granting the Alaska Decoration of Honor to nine Alaskan servicemen killed in action during 2012.
The House unanimously passed House Concurrent Resolution 5, sponsored by Representative Dan Saddler. The Legislature established the award in 2007 and since then has posthumously awarded it to 232 Alaska servicemen and –women.
“We know that freedom is not free… the cost is borne by men and women like these, who risk and sometimes lose their lives in service. It is our sacred duty to remember and honor their sacrifice, and HCR 5 is one way to do that,” Saddler, R-JBER/Eagle River, said.
HCR 5 awards the Alaska Decoration of Honor to the following individuals:
Dustin P. Napier, Jeffrey L. White, Jr., Thomas K. Fogarty, Brian L. Walker, Richard L. McNulty, Vincent J. Ellis, Nathan T. Davis, Carl E. Hammar, and Ethan J. Martin.
The Alaska Legislature’s Joint Armed Services Committee will present the awards to recipient’s surviving family members at a ceremony over the interim. Details, when available, will be announced.
HCR 5 now moves to the Alaska Senate for consideration.
