MEXICO-Authorities in Mexico discovered what they are saying is the largest Marijuana plantation ever found in Mexico. The plantation was located about 190 miles south of the U.S. border.
The field was found near the town of San Quentin. It measured about three hundred acres and was interspersed with tomato plants and bordered by cacti. Some of the plants had reached heights of over 8 feet. Authorities estimate the value of the crop at about $160 million.
Authorities in Mexico still are unclear about who owns the property, but stated that about 60 people were working in the field when they arrived. Those people fled. Six people were caught and detained.
Since Mexican President Felipe Calderon declared war on the drug cartels of Mexico, more than 206,000 acres of Marijuana have been found and destroyed. The crop from this bust is due to be destroyed sometime next week.
