On Tuesday, Sitka Police, serving a search warrant requested by 37-year-old William R. Hammock's probation officer, uncovered what they initially believe to be bones from a small child while searching for illegal drugs.
The search warrant at Hammock’s residence on the Sawmill Creek Road was prompted by a search of Hammock’s vehicle, which turned up evidence of cocaine and methamphetamine possession.
The remains of the small child, which police say are many years old and possibly very old native remains, were found in a box in a drawer in the home.
The remains were sent to the State Medical Examiner in Anchorage and photographed. The investigation may also involve an anthropologist and the Sitka Tribe of Alaska according to Sitka Police Lt Barry Allen.
