Indictment Handed Down in July 9th Fatal Seward Highway Accident

An indictment was handed down by an Anchorage Grand Jury for Manslaughter and DUI for the Monday night accident and rollover at mile 88 on the Seward Highway.

The Grand Jury indicted 42-year-old John William Martin III on Wednesday and a $100,000 warrant was issued for his arrest, the trooper dispatch reports.

It was on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 9:19 pm that Troopers with the Bureau of Highway Patrol and Girdwood responded to the scene of the accident two miles south of Girdwood on the Seward Highway.

When they responded to the scene, they found a Chevy van had overturned after impact with one fatality at the location.

The trooper investigation would reveal that the van had been traveling northbound when it veered into the southbound lane striking the guardrail. The impact caused 34-year-old Wasilla resident, Margie Thompson, to be thrown from the vehicle. The vehicle flipped and came to rest in the middle of the highway. When the van rolled over, it landed on Thompson. She was declared deceased at the scene.

Thompson’s remains were released to the State Medical Examiner’s office as the investigation into the accident continued.
